Scooter Brands
In the world of scooters there is so much to choose from. First, there are many different types of scooters. There are :
- Two wheeled powered scooters
- Three wheeled powered scooters
- Four wheeled powered scooters
Some are for recreation and traveling distances and others are for those with mobility problems. Some of the most popular brands are Shoprider, Pride, CTM, Luggie, and Victory.
All of the two wheeled power scooters are for recreational purposes. They are for those that need assistance in going long distances but have the ability to balance. Some have thick wheels and others have thin wheels as used in bikes. Those with the thicker wheels are designed for comfort with large padded seats, baskets, and pedals. There are those that have LCD panels and those that have batteries that can be charged through a power outlet or the sun.
The electric bikes can be folded for easy transportation. These bikes are really wonderful for those that want to go long distances, but may need a little extra help in hilly terrain. You have the option of the power kicking in when you need it. On the power assist you have 10 different levels to choose from.
The three wheeled scooters are mainly for those that are mobility challenged. There are so many different styles that one needs to consider all of them and then decide what are the options that are most important to you.
In considering the three wheeled scooter one needs to consider the sturdiness of them. Also another important feature is the comfort of the seat. Can the seat tilt to the desired position? Does the seat swivel for easy entrance and exit? Can the height of the seat be adjusted?
Another feature of the three wheeled scooter to consider is how portable is the scooter. Is it easy to disassemble? Is it simple to transport? What size vehicle will it fit into—Do you need a large car or will it fit into a smaller car? How much does it weigh? Will it be easy for a woman to put it into a car or will she need help?
Other features to consider will be the maneuverability of the scooter—how does it handle in small halls and through doorways? Are there arms on the scooter? Do the arms lower to enter and exit? What type of tires are there on the scooter? Most scooters come with no-flat tires—so that is one less thing to worry about!
The four wheeled mobility scooters have the biggest variety to choose from. Some of them are like motorized wheel chairs. Others are like a regular chair on a platform. Others are almost like an airplane seat with a headrest. Some have a space to hold an oxygen tank.
Some scooters are operated with the controls on the handle bars. Others don't have handlebars—they have arms and the controls are at the end of one of the arms. Some have arms and handle bars. Always check the comfort of the seats. Some seats are well-padded while others are hard plastic. Some come with baskets and others don't. Always check the tilt and adjustability of the seat.
There is another scooter that we have to mention. It is for those planning on taking it on the road. Definitely not for the mobile challenged. It is completely inclosed with lights and windshield wipers. It has a door on both sides and has a weight limit of 350 lbs. If you see one on the road you are sure to remember it.
